Treasured Bears
evolved from three personal tragedies.
In December 2003,
my father, Glenn, died from a debilitating illness. Five months later on May
4, 2004, my 15-year old son, Scott, died in his sleep. Almost exactly two years
later, in May 2006, my best friend's 16-year old daughter, Hannah, died in a
horrific car crash.
For Christmas
2006, I made my first bear for my mom out of one of my dad's shirts. This was
followed by a bear for my daughter's 21st birthday out of Scott's shirts. I
then surprised my friend and her daughter with bears for the first anniversary
of Hannah's death.
Besides having
fun creating the bears, I saw what a source of comfort they have
been to the recipients. I decided to offer my services to others and established
Treasured Bears. It is my goal to donate half of what I earn to one of my favorite
charities. Since 2007, I have purchased a water buffalo, heifers, llamas, goats, sheep, pigs, and other animals through Heifer International
for needy families.
This website
honors all those who have died and whose memories live on in the bears
I create.
Read Living Life Like Scott
